OK, we admit it! Last year’s amazing adaptation of Stephen King’s ‘IT’ was…amazing! No wait, it was awe-inspiring, awesome, and astonishing (any other ‘A’ words you can think of?)! But still, director Tommy Lee Wallace’s 1990 miniseries adaptation will always and forever hold a special place in my heart, largely because of the efforts of original Pennywise actor Tim Curry.
That’s not saying that the miniseries was without its flaws. No, no no! But still, when watched from outside the lens of my 17-year-old mind, I saw something more. The 1990’s version possessed a much different strength outside of simply Curry’s performance. What I felt the main strength was, in all honesty, the cast of the kid losers. With that, the new aged cast had a solid foundation to step into.
Most King purists stick with the mini-series over the movie due to it being closer to the books. As an example, the 1990’s “losers” are set in the 1950s/1960s like the novel whereas the 2017 movie is not is the most notable way.
The miniseries creation has never been explored in-depth even as beloved as it is. No DVD sales were in mind for films and TV shows of that time. As a result, the DVD and Blu-Ray of the mini-series contain only a single commentary track.
As I bet you can guess with the success of the 2017 movie and relived nostalgia for the original series…that’s all about to change by way of a new documentary about the 1990’s series called Pennywise: The Story of IT from Dead Mouse Productions. Who just happen to be the folks behind prior horror docs on Fright Night and Hellraiser.
The documentary includes interviews with more than 50 members of IT’s cast and crew – and lots of newly released behind-the-scenes photos and footage – Pennywise: The Story of IT hits Blu-Ray in June.
Check out the teaser trailer below, and brace yourself for the coolness to come.
