On Apr fifth, 2013, Fede Alvarez unleashed his remake of Sam Raimi’s 1981 classic The Evil Dead. With a contemporary styling and updated aesthetic, Evil Dead completely blew audiences away with its thousands of gallons of blood and awing FX and computer graphics.

Of course, several “fans” detested it – however, that’s an unfortunate side affect in this trade.

Any time you’re taking a beloved franchise and you decide to place a contemporary spin on a cult classic, some diehards are already planning to be heavily opposed to it before you start.

But for those that cherished it – and there were many who did – the director gave all of us a bit of a gift last night by posting a variety of ne’er before seen photos from his stash of behind the scenes pictures of the film on his Twitter.

Has it honestly been 5 years? Time sure does fly. Check out the photos below and tell us what you think of the remake.

When future generations look back at the horror movies of this time period this will be listed as one of the best. It’s bloody, it’s tense, and it provides a great contrast from the original, enough to justify its existence as a separate film as opposed to yet another rehash.

And Jane Levy, of course. How great is she?

Really great. That was rhetorical.
