Horror movies are taking Hollywood by storm these days so expect Horror Movie Sequels to be all the rage within the next few years. It’s a good time to be a horror fan for sure. It seemed that week after week there was another No. 1 finish by a horror movie at the box office. IT, A Quiet Place, and Get Out were not only the top horror films but they were standouts in 2017 among all films.
48 Meters Down
They seem to be rushing this one out with a release date of June 28, 2019, has been set.
The original writer and director are both back on set to helm this one too. In the sequel, the action will move from Mexico to Brazil. The IMDb synopsis says “48 Meters Down follows five backpackers who go diving in a ruined underwater city and quickly learn they are not alone in the submerged caves.” We’re betting by “not alone” it must mean …cows!
Alien: Covenant 2 / Prometheus 3
Ridley Scott said that After Alien: Covenant, there will be “another one and then another one which will gradually drive into the back entrance of the film in 1979.” He also said in a different interview that “The whole point of it is to explain the Alien franchise and to explain the how and why of the creation of the alien itself.” So, in other words, they are going to try to milk it for all it’s worth. But seeing as how underwhelming the last one did at the box office they might want to hurry it along and back the bus up into the first film.
The Devil’s Rejects 2 aka 3 From Hell
Rob Zombie’s next film as a director is the third movie based off of his original directorial debut The House of 1000 Corpses. It looks as if the Firefly family survived the ending to Devil’s Rejects…somehow. This film wrapped in early April 2018 and is currently in post-production however no release date has been set. The Devil’s Rejects was Zombie’s second film, certainly his best, earning $17 million at the box office alone on a $7 million budget and then doing extremely well on DVD.
Screenwriter Michael Dougherty has taken on the task of directing as well since the original director had gone off to a galaxy far, far away. But not to worry Dougherty previous directing credits include Krampus and the much-loved anthology Trick ‘r Treat.
Stranger Things actress Millie Bobby Brown will star with Friday Night Lights’ Kyle Chandler and Silicon Valley’s Thomas Middleditch. As of now, it’s reported to hit cinemas on March 31, 2019.
Godzilla vs King Kong
Scheduled to hit the screens in 2020 this has the potential to be one of the greatest heavyweight fights of all time. Better than Ali Vs Frazier, Tyson Vs Douglas, or George Forman and a bag of cheeseburgers! We are pretty sure that this film will bring Godzilla and the Skull Island version of King together for the big title match.
Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween
The first Goosebumps movie was awesome and now Sony is hoping to make it a franchise. So far the main players, and Rob Letterman as director are coming back for this sequel at least. The film is due in October 12, 2018.
Written by Pineapple Express’ David Gordon Green Eastbound & Down actor and writer Danny McBride. Ok, that’s odd. But from what we’ve heard the legend that is John Carpenter loved their take on the film. As we’ve seen from the trailers it’s not a reboot but a continuation from the original Halloween and Halloween II’s story. No word yet if there are any face melting masks in this one. The film will be out on October 19, 2018.
It: Chapter 2
The sequel to 2017’s massive success of the Stephen King novel is shooting for a September 2019 release date. Chapter 2will feature the Losers Club all grown-up who successfully have all moved away and lived their lives…Until they realize that they have to return to Derry when Pennywise rears his ugly head again some 27 years later.
Last Witch Hunter 2
Vin Diesel is still attached to project but not much else is known. The first film did decent box office worldwide so Lionsgate ordered a sequel.
Lights Out 2
The original director (David F. Sandberg), writer (Eric Heisserer), and producer (James Wan) are all back on board for the sequel. Turns out that based on the strength of the American box office success a sequel was quickly ordered and hopes to become a new franchise.
Written by Shane Black and Fred Dekker with Black directing the new Predator series of movies. Taking place after Predator 2 but before the 2010 film, this one looks as if it’s going to jump-start the franchise again.
Coming out September 14, 2018.
Tucker & Dale Vs Evil 2
YES! Alan Tudyk and Tyler Labine confirmed the news last year that they would reprise their roles. As of now there’s been little sign yet of it going into production…but we can hardly wait! While you’re waiting, go see the original…
What We Do In The Shadows 2 aka We’re Wolves
Are they Werewolves or Swearwolves in this one? A much-anticipated sequel is in the works to the 2014 horror comedy that gave us a sneak peek of what it was like to be a vampire in New Zealand today. The sequel would focus on the alpha male werewolf Anton and his pack.
World War Z 2
Brad Pitt is back to star and it’s possible that David Fincher will direct the sequel, though the project keeps hitting delays – mostly recently it looks like season 2 of Netflix’s Mindhunter has tied Fincher down for now.
At the end of the first one the remains of mankind had figured out how to pass “unseen” through the undead horde – by infecting themselves with fatal but curable diseases, and wrapping magazines around their forearms – but the world remained overrun. In World War Z 2 we’d expect to see the zombies figure out what’s up and then the fighting to begin.
We figured that Zombieland 2 was dead once Amazon ordered a TV version pilot episode but for some reason, it just didn’t get enough interest for them to order a full series. I can’t quite figure out how unless they really familied it up and took away the geniuses of the film. Original creators of the movie Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese have been developing a script for the follow-up and Ruben Fleischer is still attached as director. I just don’t see how they could bring back Bill Fucking Murray though.
